Civet,an amazing creature looks like a cat fox and badger all in one.It came around our camp each night around eight thirty. It took four nights to catch his image.
These shots took me a few days to get. Orang-utans live high up in the trees in huge nest they build by weaving branches together. They build their nests near abundant fruit, often within arms length of their resting place so they can lay back while they eat.The only time they come down near the forest floor is when moving to to another tree .I got up at 5.30 each morning waiting perfectly still ,for this lady to come down .Eventually she did and what a sight .When she saw me she gave out to me in a high shrilling voice and threw a stick , so I left her alone.
An old Orang-utan nest, notice the near by fruit.

A couple of Proboscis monkeys (male and female) .Very elusive creatures, always on guard watching and listening. When approaching, they usually see you before you them, they the foliage to the ground with great speed.
Crab Eating Macaque It took a month to spot one of these .found low down in the canopy very fast and hard to spot.Living near rivers they eat plant matter frogs insects and crabs.
Female Pigtail Macaque, fruit eating travel in troops of 20 to thirty.Spotted this girl while I was travelling upriver in a canoe. They tend to ignore people when they are in boats.
Male Pig- tail Macaque, met this guy in a reserve in Sepilock while he was entertaining a young female ,he was not very happy with our presence and let us know ![]() Tailor Bird I took this picture at night I might have woke him up but he did not move. Many birds seem to rest in the lower canopy at night. It is probably much safer than the higher regions as this is where most activity occurs. ![]() Tailor Bird
Possible Garnet Pitta. (didn't want to wake it)
Red Legged Crake
The Brown Leech ,travelling through the Danium valley jungle these were a problem.Every 15 minutes myself and Joe my travelling buddy had leech checks .On occasions we would pick ten or more off each others backs, legs and backpacks. They were partciarlly attracted to inside shoes luckily we brought leech socks, a canvis type material that went up to the knee prevented them feasting on our legs and feet. They have an anticoagulant that prevents the blood from clotting which means after you pull them off you keep on bleeding. A relitive of the earthworm they can lye for as long as 6 months without feeding waiting for a warm blooded host to come along
Centipede, found everywhere in the jungle, nasty bite !
