We-Learn Portal Returns

July 2008: Now back up and running. Log on and join us over the summer break.

We-Learn Portal
As a school we have actively being promoting the We-Learn Portal to support Teaching and Learning. Unfortunately last week we received information from Warwickshire Local authority about the unavailability of the We-Learn Portal due to essential maintenance.  We have registered our disappointment and frustration at this state of affairs with the Warwickshire Local Authority. Unfortunately, the critical nature of the upgrade to the system means that there will be some disruption.

The periods of planned Portal unavailability will be as follows:

         17:00 Friday 02 May – 18:00 Saturday 03 May

         17:00 Friday 09 May – 18:00 Saturday 10 May

         17:00 Friday 16 May – 18:00 Saturday 17 May

         17:00 Friday 23 May – 18:00 Saturday 24 May

         17:00 Friday 06 June – 18:00 Saturday 07 June

This re-scheduling reduces the down time to one 24 hour period over the weekend and means that the portal will be available from 1800 hours on Saturday and throughout Sunday.

The Local Authority apologises for the inconvenience but they state that there is no alternative than to have these periods of unavailability if they are to upgrade the data centre and deliver improved services.

Children In Need
Non Uniform Day & Special Events - 16th Nov 2007

Students at Bilton school raised a considerable amount of money for this year's Children In Need appeal. Almost £1,500 was raised through a variety of events. Cake sales and sponsored events saw the money come rolling in. One particular highlight was a member of staff raising money by having a “trendy” haircut! All students took part in these fundraising activities that culminated in a non-uniform and fancy dress day.

“It has been a great week – students raising money and having fun while also reflecting on the need to give consideration to others less fortunate than themselves.” – John Pinkney Assistant Principal

Eureka - Science & Engineering Club
Eden Project Visit 18th to 20th June 2007

We headed off bright and early on the Monday morning and after about 6 hours travelling arrived at the beautiful Par Sands. With the sun shining we enjoyed a game of cricket and a spot of sunbathing. We arrived about 5 at the Golant Youth Hostel set in acres of beautiful Cornish country side and enjoyed a three course meal followed by more games.

On day two we spent the day at the Eden Project and luckily the rain held off for most of it. We were lead round the sweltering tropical biome by Mr Martin, a specialist in this field and who has spent a lot of time in Malaysian rain forest. After lunch and some Cornish ice cream we entered the mediterranean biome and explored the new core educational centre We were also allowed to have a sneak preview of ‘the seed’ the newest sculpture at the project. This was a really exciting and enjoyable day for both staff and students!!

On the final day after a hearty breakfast we set off to St Austell to buy some Cornish delicacies including pasties and clotted cream before the long journey home.

We would like to commend the students for their outstanding behaviour and enthusiasm for each activity. We hope the students can apply some of the ideas we saw at the Eden Project to our club garden and continue to make that a success.

We look forward to finishing the Eco school project with the club this term as well being excited about our new lego robotics project in the Autumn term. Watch this space for more information
