Designing yourself?
Remember, you're designing for print
We're always happy to print your artwork. The thing is, the latest software has really clever wizards which, while they let you knock up a design in no time, may mean you create artwork using effects that can’t be printed. Sorry to be blunt, but designing something cool on screen is one thing: doing it so it can be printed as you'd want it to is another. Unless you know what you're doing you're really best leaving it to the professionals. Remember, we know how to make you look good - and we know how to do it so it’ll print! Take a look in our copywriting and design pages to see what we can do.
Avoid making assumptions
Of course, if you’re a seasoned designer things are different - errr, well not entirely. You see, we use a centralised, batch CMYK print process and like all printers, our process has parts of it that are unique to us. If you’re certain you want to design for yourself, please read through Direct from Disk – it's packed with the things you really need to know about how to set up your file for print. And if you want more help on the requirements, don't be embarrassed, contact us. We're happy to advise FREE of charge.
Guarantee your design will print how you want it to
Having saved money by designing yourself, we'd hate for you to screw up and end up binning your print. For this reason we offer an optional extra called File Checking. This service helps you become proficient in supplying technically valid files for yourself: for a small fee we'll complete a technical review of your file against the requirements of our process (see Direct from Disk). In doing so we'll fix everything we can, informing you of what we've done. And for those things we can't fix, we'll offer you advice so that you can. And once everything is fixed we'll supply you with a proof so you can be certain what's going to go to print is what you want printed. Prices for file checking start from £25 and are charged per file.
Please, just print my design thanks
If File Checking is an extra you don't want then that's fine - just don’t say we didn’t warn you about the complexities of supplying print ready files. Doing this is only for experienced designers fully familiar with the printing.com printing process. If this is you, then all you need to do is complete a Disk Risker Form and supply it to us when you give us your file. Good luck! Fingers crossed.
