Dr. Alan Curley PhD, is the founder of the media-acclaimed PILAR-Change system (Personal-Imagery Linked Active Repetition) (see sport links). He is also one of the most qualified Hypnotherapists and Mind-Skill trainers in the UK, as well as being highly regarded as an expert on techniques to stop smoking.
Dr Curley, is also recognised for his excellent teaching and training skills, and lectures at the University of West of Scotland on behaviour change models and techniques used within healthcare. Much of his pioneering work in cutting-edge mind techniques has been published in the national media (see sports link, research links)
Dr Curley, PhD, started his career as a research scientist, studying Medical Biochemistry at Glasgow University. He then studied his Doctorate in 'Genetics of Brain and Bone disorders (calcium regulation)' at Imperial College, University of London and at the University of Oxford. During his studies he worked at the Hammersmith Hospital in London, and the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. After obtaining his PhD, he was employed by the University of Glasgow to carry out research into sleeping sickness. His scientific calcium-based research work has been published. (see research links)
Dr. Curley, then left Academia and became well-known for his Practical-based work in the addictions field (particularly Smoking). Once again his pioneering work and results in these fields has led to many accolades in the Media, TV and Radio about his work (see sports link).
Dr. Curley then began to transfer the principles of Addictions work into the field of Sports Mind-Focus coaching. He hypothesised ‘that with minor alterations, techniques for ‘beating’ addictions, could also be transferred into ‘beating’ sporting opponents’. So with the help of a local boxer (Kevin McIntyre), and his trainer (Colin Belshaw), then Dr. Curley went on to prove this hypothesis. The subsequent results with this professional sportsman, later became the foundation of Dr. Curley’s PILAR- mind-focus training, (Personal Imagery Linked Active Repetition). This new mind-focus training technique first took the boxing world by storm in 2007 with Kevin Mcintyre, going on to become the British Welterweight Boxing Champion. (see sport links).
Today, Dr. Curley continues his work mainly in the Sport and addictions field and routinely guest-lectures on behaviour change techniques at Universities, therapy centres, and provides workshops at National Holistic therapy conferences. He still writes and delivers training courses in mind-focus programs and is still regarded as one of the top Sports Mind-focus coaches in the UK, having been asked by Hugh Keevins (Sports correspondent), to consult on the Celtic football team & the Scotland Football team. He is still actively involved in working with sportsmen in order to help achieve optimal performances.(see sport links)
