Hello! My name is Pam Wilkins and I have been working with pre-school children for the last 23 years. With my love of young children and singing it seemed a natural progression to open up my own music group called Peekaboo which has been running successfully since the year 2000. I now have about 200 children who come to my classes each week in Burgess Hill, Hove and Sayers Common.Babies and young children are encouraged to join in the music in a relaxed, fun and happy environment. We sing traditional nursery rhymes and action songs with puppets, parachutes, pictures and percussion instruments. Peekaboo is a very friendly, welcoming group where lots of friendships have been formed. Quite a few parents have told me that friends made at Peekaboo are now godparents to their children. Apart from the ‘fun’, there are lots of benefits to your children in joining Peekaboo. The classes are structured so the little ones soon learn to participate by taking turns, returning instruments to the ‘instrument box’ and simply learning to listen quietly. Each lesson nurtures their physical, social, emotional and intellectual development. A typical session consists of:- 1. A welcome song with the puppet of the week. 2. A selection of action songs. 3. A picture for colours and counting and of course singing. 4. More action songs like “row row row your boat.” 5. Birthday time (where a child looks in the ‘birthday bag’). 6. Circle songs like "ring a ring a roses." 7. Percussion instrument time (children come and choose their own) 8. Jumping monkeys time. 9. Fun, laughter and singing with the parachute. 10. Marching songs – eg. Pretending to be soldiers and choosing actions to copy (a particular favourite). 11. Cuddly toy time and a cuddle with mum or minder. After the music there is 30 minutes to have refreshments while your little one amuses him or herself with a good selection of toys. What a great way to spend a morning/afternoon. What a perfect start in life. |
